Why Stacking Days Matters

Everyone wants results fast. Players want offers after one good summer, parents want playing time after one strong game, and coaches want instant buy-in. But the truth? The journey takes time — and the only way forward is by stacking days.

When my son first started this grind, there were no scouts, no cameras, and definitely no offers. There were just early mornings, late nights, and a lot of missed shots in between. Some days he doubted himself. Some days we all did.

But here’s what we learned: results don’t come in days… they come from days. Weeks, months, even years later, you suddenly realize that all those unseen reps built the foundation.

I’ll never forget one game — he had just 6 points midway through, struggling, frustrated, questioning himself. That night could’ve been the breaking point. But instead of folding, he kept stacking. Play after play, possession after possession. He finished with 25 points, including four threes and clutch free throws down the stretch.

That performance didn’t come from one hot shooting night. It came from years of stacked days when no one was watching.

The long game is the only game.

  • Don’t chase overnight results.
  • Don’t let today’s struggle define tomorrow’s potential.
  • Stay the course. Play the long game.

Because whether you’re a parent in the grind or an athlete chasing a dream, the formula doesn’t change: consistency beats impatience every time.

If you’re a parent or player in this grind, you already know the mental side of the game is just as important as the physical. That’s why I created The Mental Game Plan — to give you the exact tools we used to build confidence, resilience, and focus on the journey from the driveway to D1.
